AAN DE DOORNS

Die wynmaakspan van Aan de Doorns Wynkelder spog hierdie jaar met die Cape Cooperage Trofee vir die Kampioen Cabernet Sauvignon. Johan Morkel, Kelderbestuurder/Wynmaker, André Kotzé van Cape Cooperage, Ryno Booysen, wynmaker en Gert van Deventer, Senior Wynmaker.
NUY

Louwritz Louw (regs), wynmaker van Nuy Wynkelder, ontvang die Maurivin Trofee van Dr Heinrich vir die Kampioen Shiraz. Nuy Kelder het nog twee kampioentrofeë verower naamlik vir hul Semillon (gehout) en Semillon (ongehout).
DE WET

De Wet Wynkelder het hierdie jaar met sy Nouvelle die AEB Chemicals Trofee vir die Kampioen Ander Wyn verower. De Wet Wynkelder se wynmaakspan is Tertius Jonck, Piet le Roux (Kelderbestuurder) en Phillip Vercuiel.
 
  Vonkel In Die Oog - Vonkelwyn Ontbyt

‘n Suksesvolle ‘Vonkel in die Oog’ Vonkelwyn ontbyt is Saterdag deur die Worcester Wynroete by Aan de Doorns Kelder aangebied. Die obrengs van die oggend is geskenk aan die Breede Vallei Vereniging vir Persone met Gestremdhede, ook bekend as Breede Vallei APD. Hierdie vereniging, wat reeds in 1951 deur die Rotariërs gestig is, bied dienste en hulp aan ‘n breë spektrum van behoeftige gestremdes. Opleiding word ook aan persone met getremdhede verskaf wat hulle in staat stel om ekonomies aktief te raak. Verder bied APD, kindersorg met spesiale opvoedingsprogramme aan. Hierdie vereniging is ‘n nie-winsgewende organisasie en ontvang slegs gedeeltelike staatsondersteuning. Die Breede Vallei APD se kantore is in Worcester op die h/v Grey- en Kerkhofstraat. Tans is die Breede Vallei APD se visie om ‘n dagsorgsentrum vir gestremdes op Touwsrivier te vestig aangesien daar ook ‘n ernstige behoefte daarvoor is.

Aan De Doorns' warm Blanc de Noir for the cold days



There’s more good news for these cold winter days from the Worcester Wine Region. Aan de Doorns Wine Cellar between Worcester and Villiersdorp, which recently won a gold medal at the annual awards ceremony of the South African Muscadel Association for its 2009 Rooi Muskadel, has just released a semi sweet Blanc de Noir.

The Aan de Doorns Blanc de Noir 2010 is a lovely, light wine with aromas of rose petals. It’s made from muscadel grapes which spent two days on the skin before the juice was extracted. The wine has a low alcohol of 12%.

“This Blanc de Noir of ours will quickly drive away the cold,” says Johan Morkel, manager/winemaker, “but in the summer it will also make many friends when served on crushed ice. Enjoy it with curry, fish, chicken or other strongly flavoured food and you’ll have a feast.” What makes Aan de Doorns’s Blanc de Noir even more attractive, is its price. It only costs R20 per bottle, or R100 for a case of six. The wine is available mainly at the cellar where it and other wines from Aan de Doorns can be tasted and purchased during the week from 08:00 – 17:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 – 13:00.
 
  THE 2009/2010 SEASON FOR AAN DE DOORNS WINE CELLAR
The harvest started earlier than in 2009 mainly because of the lower yields. The grapes were disease-free with no botrytis-infection. This was due to the relative smaller berry size and the millerendage effect.

The quality of the grapes of the early varieties were exceptional. The Sauvignon blanc’s produced the full spectrum of flavours from vegetative to the more tropical in the riper grapes. It was probably the best Chenin blanc year in a long time due to the lower yield and the absence of botrytis infection.

The red grapes had good color due to the cold nights in the veraison period. This season will be remembered for obtaining tannin ripeness at lower sugar levels that made it possible to produce lower alcohol wines...
